Parent Handbook

  1. Duration of the pre-primary programme
    • The pre-primary programme is a 3 to 4 year programme, depending on the date of birth of your child.
    • The academic year, your child turns 5 on or before July 31st, will be his/ her final year in the pre-primary programme.
  2. Attendance
    • Regular attendance is vital for your child’s academic development and emotional well being.
    • If your child is unwell, please do not send him/ her to school. If a child falls ill at school or is hurt, we will ensure that basic first aid and care is provided. In such cases, we will contact you immediately so that he/ she can be picked up at the earliest. Any medication like Crocin, will be given only after parental approval. Please keep us updated with any changes in your contact details.
    • If your child is unable to attend school, please call and let us know.
    • In case of any long absences, please intimate us by an email/ letter.
  1. Punctuality
    • Being on time is very important. Children need some time to settle down before proceeding with their work for the day. If your child is late, he may miss out on this time or on certain pre- planned activities. Walking in late also disturbs the environment. In case of a delay due to any reason, please call and inform us.
  1. Pick up and Drop
    • Please drop and pick up your child at the gate. We would appreciate it if there is smooth flowing traffic with minimal disturbance to the neighbourhood. Please avoid honking and in case you need to park, do not obstruct any one’s driveway.
    • If you are going to be late on any day to pick up your child, please call and let us know so that one of us is prepared to stay back.
    • Your child’s safety is of utmost importance to us. We will be maintaining a folder with photographs of people who are authorised to pick up your child. He/ she will be handed over ONLY to such people. Authorisation is required for everyone except parents. If a person is new, prior introduction is required and photo identification needs to be provided for our records.
  1. Snack
    • We will be providing your child with a nutritionally balanced snack every day. He/ she will be exposed to a variety of such snacks and will also be involved in preparation of the same. This fosters a sense of belonging to the community.
    • A water bottle is required to be carried every day. Please ensure that it is easy for your child to open and close. A bag is not required.
    • Children who stay beyond 01:00pm will have to carry lunch from home. Please send something that your child can eat independently.
  1. Clothing
    • A Montessori environment facilitates a lot of learning through movement and activities like painting, gardening and so on. Therefore, please send your child in comfortable casual wear.
    • Please avoid any elaborate/ expensive jewelry or accessories, as the school will not be responsible for the same in case of any loss.
    • At the beginning of the term, please provide 2 spare sets of clothes (3 sets for toddlers), including undergarments, which will be used in case of accidents. Soiled clothes will be returned and will have to be replaced.
    • Shoes should be such that your child can handle them without any assistance.
  1. Privacy:
    • We value the privacy of our children, their families and our staff. All personal information is confidential and will not be shared. Photos on our website or any social media will be used only after prior approval.
  1. Communication
    • All official communication will primarily be through email. The calendar on our website will be updated with regard to school events, festivals and holidays. Please check your email and the calendar regularly.
    • Important reminders will also be put up at the gate.
    • Please keep us updated with changes in any of your contact details.
  1. Celebrations
    • Birthdays: We would love to make your child’s birthday special. If you would like to celebrate it in school, please inform us a few days in advance. A cake without cream would be preferred. Other options could be muffins, cupcakes, cookies or fruits. We do not encourage any balloons, party hats or return gifts. If you wish to give something to the school, please contact us. Please note that this is optional.
    • Festivals: We have a secular approach towards celebrating festivals. All major festivals and national holidays will be observed.
  1. Parental participation
    • We strongly believe that working hand in hand with parents enriches the child and the school as a whole. We offer several opportunities for the same such as reading stories, singing, introducing art/ music, cooking, gardening, sharing interesting experiences in any field, helping in coordinating school events etc. If you would like to volunteer for any such activities, please contact us.
  1. Parent Teacher Meetings
    • Parent teacher communication is of utmost importance to us as these are opportunities to share experiences and the progress of your child. Official meetings are scheduled thrice a year. If you would like to meet us at any other time to share a concern about your child, please fix an appointment. Likewise, the school may also schedule a meeting if the need arises.
  1. Reports
    • A written report will be given at the end of the academic year.
  1. Montessori materials:
    • Montessori materials can be used only in their entirety. They are very attractive and there could be situations where the child may take a part of the material home. If this happens, we request you to return it to the school at the earliest.
  1. Lost and Found:
    • Please label all your child’s belongings. This will help us to keep track of his/ her things. Incase anything is misplaced, it will be put in a “lost and found” basket.
